Daily updates: Atiku Abubakar's access to INEC electoral materials Appeal Court takes final decision on PDP

Appeal Court takes final decision on PDP, Atiku’s access to INEC electoral materials.

Dailysunnews9ja

A three-man panel of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday granted presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar access to all materials used in the presidential elections.

The decision was made after the panel heard the ex-parte motion filed by Atiku Abubakar, seeking an order granting them access to inspect the electoral materials used for the February 23 polls.

News men recalls that Atiku had demanded that materials used for the February 23 presidential election be inspected.

Justice Abdul Aboki, head of the panel, in delivering its ruling ordered INEC to allow the appellant access to all electoral materials to enable him file and maintain an electoral petition, Channels Tv reports.

However, the court refused prayers 3 to 5 which sort for scanning and forensic audit, stating that a forensic audit does not fall under the terms envisaged by section 151 of the Electoral Act.

Daily updates: There May Not Be Elections In 2023, PDP Chairman, Reveals Wh

There May Not Be Elections In 2023, PDP Chairman, Reveals Why

Dailysunnews9ja

The National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus, during his speech at the opening session of the caucus meeting of the party in Abuja, raised the alarm that there might be no election in 2023 if the military continued to participate during elections as they were allegedly used during the February 23 elections.

He stated that the alleged involvement of the military in the elections was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

He said they were committed to going to the tribunal, adding that they might file the case on Tuesday.

According to him, it is surprising that the National Peace Committee had allegedly kept silence over the alleged intimidation and harassment of Atiku, his acquaintances and some PDP stalwarts.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that Saturday’s elections were free, fair, transparent and credible.

Secondus said, “On February 23, 2019, how will history judge you (Buhari)? How will the next generation judge you? In fact, there may not be election in 2023, it may just be announcement because if you have the military on your side, you do not need the people, you do not need to campaign. All you need to do is to put the figure on election day and announce. Is that what is going to happen again on March 9?”

The PDP chairman urged the military to remain professional in the discharge of their duties, adding that they must not allow themselves to be used by politicians.

He said, “We appeal to the authorities especially our professional military men and women that this has never happened before. They must have a rethink. If they want to participate in politics, they are free to do so. I think it happened in Thailand where the military and civilians can contest and share offices.

If our constitution is changed to contain that, it is a happy development but whereas the constitution says they are not part and parcel of the process, is that what is going to happen on March 9?

“The son-in-law to our presidential candidate was arrested without justification; he has been detained and has not been released. His personal lawyer has been detained and the leaders of our country are keeping quiet; the Peace Committee is keeping quiet. Everyone here is keeping quiet.”

Secondus alleged that Buhari had unleashed a full-blown dictatorship on Nigerians. He said he was hopeful of God’s intervention, adding that with the collective efforts of the people, Nigeria would be rescued.

Big News: Atiku Abubakar's Son in-law was Arrested by EFCC

BREAKING: EFCC arrests Atiku’s son-in-law

Dailysunnews9ja

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Babalele Abdullahi, son in-law and Finance Director of group of companies owned by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Paul Ibe, Media aide to Atiku Abubakar, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday.

According to him, the arrest was part of the plot to make Atiku concede the result of the just concluded election.

He, however, stated that Atiku has vowed not be cowed by any attempt to blackmail him into mortgaging his mandate.

The statement reads in part

“In a desperate move to have Atiku Abubakar concede and congratulate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at about 8.30am today (Saturday) invaded the Maitama residence of Babalele. They were however not given access into the house until his lawyers arrived.

“The EFCC agents numbering about two dozen came in 2 regular vehicles, an 18-seater Toyota bus (registration Abuja CS 522 RSH) and a hilux van. They came with a search warrant to search the house and office of Babalele and found nothing incriminating.

“They then proceeded to his office at Oakland Centre in Maitama and found nothing incriminating there. However, they took away some documents of landed property.

“Not done, the EFCC officials stormed his Wuse residence where they again found nothing incriminating after the search.

“Afterwards, Babalele was taken away to the EFCC office in Wuse to make a statement alongside Mr. Lawan Ayuba.”

“As a law abiding citizen, Atiku Abubakar recognizes the constitutional role of the EFCC and indeed any other agency of the government to carry out investigations, but will not be cowed by any attempt to blackmail him into mortgaging his mandate,” he said.

Dailysunnews9ja

PDP candidate Atiku has set up a team of lawyers to lead his defense against APC’s President Buhari at the elections tribunal

The former vice president announced the development through a statement by his media aide Paul Ibe
Atiku’s legal team is led by Dr Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Ibe says

Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 presidential election, has set up a legal team that will challenge the victory of the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in court.

Newsmen reports that the inauguration of his legal team, headed by Dr Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), on Saturday, was announced by his media aide Paul Ibe through a statement.

“I have just inaugurated my legal team and charged them with the responsibility of ensuring that our stolen mandate is retrieved,” Abubakar said in the statement.

“I am encouraged by the presence of fearless men and women of the Bench.

“The judiciary which had in the past discharged itself ably is once again being called upon to deliver judgement on this matter that will be untainted by lucre and uncowed by the threat of immoral power.”

Meanwhile, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied that the party or Atiku Abubakar, its candidate in the Saturday, February 23 presidential election made any demands of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was declared winner by INEC.

PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement he issued on Saturday, March 2, accused the presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to the opposition.

Ologbondiyan said the party had no interest in negotiating with anybody over the outcome of the election.

The PDP claimed it had results different from what INEC declared and that the party would provide that and evidence of manipulations before the election tribunal.

2019 Election: Buhari vs Atiku on Final Battle 23rd February

Buhari vs Atiku on Final Battle

Dailysunnews9ja

Atiku {PDP}  and Buhari {APC}

After the Presidential Election postponement from 16th February to 23rd February 2019 has  finally arrived, and all Thanks to INEC for the postponement because who knows what could have happened and could have be of Nigeria by now.

The finally battle between the present President Muhammadu Buhari which party is All Progressives Congress {APC}  and Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar  which party is People’s Democratic Party {PDP} is today 23rd February 2019.

This battle will be a very tough one for both parties {APC & PDP}

While many Nigerians believe that the 2015 event which reassured the world of the stability and growth of democracy in the country, may repeat again, others feel it would be difficult for Atiku and the PDP to defeat Buhari and his All Progressives Congress party.

However, multiple polls carried out by multiple mainstream media and international research organization, social media and online have pointed to an impending victory for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr. Peter Obi.

The feedback was positive towards the ability of Atiku and Obi to deliver growth, provide jobs and began the urgent task of lifting a large number of Nigerians out of poverty.

In October 2018, The Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, the research unit of The Economist Magazine, predicted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the upcoming 2019 presidential election, which means Atiku will defeat Buhari

Dailysunnews9ja

According to the magazine “The 2019 elections will be a close contest between the ruling APC and the PDP. We expect the PDP presidential candidate to win.

“The next government is likely to be led by the PDP, the main opposition, potentially in a coalition with smaller parties.”

Supporting this premise, Williams and Associates, the United States-based polling firm which predicted victory for Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 is the same person who predicted victory for Atiku Abubakar in this presidential polls.

The polling firm had arrived at its conclusion working with data collected across Nigeria by its operatives through face to face interviews and using multi-stage stratification proportionate to the population sample responders who were interviewed on their preferences in English and local dialects as appropriate.

Daily updates: PDP Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar Urges Nigerians To Be Calm

Election postponement: Atiku Abubakar, PDP Presidential Candidate, Urges Nigerians To Be Calm

Dailysunnews9ja

Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party and Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to remain peaceful in the face of provocation occasioned by the postponed of the elections.

He was reacting to the postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In a statement he signed, Mr Atiku said the postponed was orchestrated by the President Muhammad Buhari administration.

He, however, urged Nigerians not to be disillusioned but to come out and vote on the rescheduled date.

The full statement below:
Dear citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

This postponement is obviously a case of the hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob. By instigating this postponement, the Buhari administration hopes to disenfranchise t he Nigerian electorate in order to ensure that turn out is low on the rescheduled date. Nigerians must frustrate their plans by coming out in even greater numbers on Saturday, 23 February and Saturday, 9 March respectively.

Knowing that the Nigerian people are determined to reject them, they are desperate and will do anything in their power to avoid their rejection by the Nigerian people.

Their plan is to provoke the public, hoping for a negative reaction, and then use that as an excuse for further anti-democratic acts.

As such, I call on all Nigerians to be patient. We have tolerated the maladministration of this government for four years. We can extend our tolerance a few more days and give them our verdict via our votes.

Maintain the peace and be law abiding. Do not react to this provocation with anger, violence or any action that might be exploited by those who do not want this election to hold. Remain calm. We will overcome this. You can postpone an election, but you cannot postpone destiny.

Please come out to vote on Saturday, 23 February and Saturday, 9 March respectively. Frustrate those who do not want this election to hold by coming out in very large numbers. That is the best antidote to their plans.

May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As you know, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced a postponement of the elections until 23 February and 9 March respectively.

The Buhari administration has had more than enough time and money to prepare for these elections and the Nigerian people were poised and ready to perform their civic responsibility by voting in the elections earlier scheduled for Saturday, 16 February, 2019.

Breaking News: Atiku Comes Under Attack For Alleged Defamatory comments

Atiku Comes Under Attack For Alleged Defamatory Comments On Buhari, Buratai

Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)‘s Presidential Candidate has come under a fresh blast for his alleged attempt to taint the person and office of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai.

Atiku had said Buratai was among 30 persons who were corrupt and working for President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), who claimed that Atiku’s move to drag the Army Chief into partisan politics, was wrong, warned him against spreading rumours that are injurious or defamatory to others integrity.

Osaloni Gbemisola Osadua Esq, the Executive Director, made this known while addressing a press conference today.

He said, “The pressure he is under, from political barometric as of today, is beyond the realization that he is set to lose the presidential election when it holds in a few days from now, the pressure is coming from the appreciation that the result of the polls will permanently and conclusively retire him from politics.

“Rather than heralding a befitting end to an illustrious political career, this damning retirement would demystify Atiku Abubakar’s in the annals of Nigeria’s political history.

The PDP presidential candidate, in fairness to him having not been ever arraigned talk less of being convicted, goes around with the burden of corruption, heavy enough for himself to have acknowledged that allegations of corruption are the heaviest burden he has to carry in his failed quest to rule Nigeria.

“Even though he has now embarked on revisionism, Atiku Abubakar’s former boss, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, when he has prime contact with the PDP current candidate described him as the most corrupt Nigerian there was. We sympathize with him that he has to go around with this kind of tarnish.

“But it beats the imagination that this same Atiku Abubakar, irrespective of how desperate he has become in his bid to fend off an enforced retirement, is now wildly accusing other upstanding Nigerians of corruption.

Our initial thought was that overzealous aides went beyond their briefs to make such accusations on behalf of Atiku Abubakar but we have since learnt that he is in on the game after waiting a considerable time without him walking back the release of the list by one Phrank Shaibu, who is said to be his Special Assistant on Public Communications.

“With the names that made Atiku’s list of corrupt persons connected to President Muhammadu Buhari, even the electorates that will cast the losing votes for him should at this point begin to question the extent to which their choice candidate has succumbed to psychosis.

The list confirmed that Atiku Abubakar’s desperation no longer has much to do about winning but is now the manifestation of a man that has become embittered by the prospect of losing to the extent that he maniacally wants to drag down everyone with him.

“First, the list went on to name the likes of Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Ayodele Oke, the suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

This goes to show that Atiku is obsessed with finding allegations of corruption against President Buhari to the point where the PDP candidate continues to accuse him of being connected to the people he has sacked.

We also saw Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the APC; Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and other past and serving appointees making the list even when they have never been convicted by any court, save the circus of public opinion convened by Atikulooters.

“Most infuriating for Nigerians is Atiku Abubakar’s indiscretion in including names of patriots like Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff, which is wrong on many levels.

“We consider it most unpatriotic to insult a man that is leading Nigerian troops against terrorist in this manner without substantiating the allegations of corruption against him.

It is on record that the Code of Conduct Bureau has cleared him long ago and he has not been convicted by any law court. We have followed Buratai antecedents and know him as an honest and transparent man, who has conducted himself appropriately in office.

“It is ridiculous how the same candidate that was harping on the need for the military to be apolitical to now be the one trying to drag the Army into politics.

“The inclusion of a serving military chief in his phantom list is consistent with the errands that Atiku’s minions and urchins have been running on his behalf for several months now.

These errands, as have been reported, are meant to undermine the military and provoke a leadership change so that pro-coup-plot officers that are sympathetic to reversing Atiku’s unfolding political twilight will come into an office.

This is a brazen threat against our democracy and must not be received halfheartedly. Nigerians must rise up across party line to demand that Atiku contain whatever emotional fall out arising from his imminent loss to himself and not drag the country down with him.

“CESJET warns that attempts by desperate politicians to drag the Army as an institution into politics should be totally discarded as by well-meaning Nigerians will resist such plot using all permissible means.

“There is no law that precludes people from becoming insane by reason of emotional stress brought on by the glaring confirmation of loss at the polls.

What the Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) and indeed the entire Nigerians will not condone is when the insanity involves the patient going berserk and indiscriminately throwing muds at honorable citizens, whose weakest moments trump Atiku at his most pious.”

This government of APC wants to rig election but we want to tell you that they cannot rig the coming elections because the world will focus on Nigeria. Atiku , “is a man who knows how to create jobs, secure the country and also fight corruption.”

Access Bank reportedly acquires Diamond Bank...

Access Bank has finally acquired Diamond Bank.

Insiders told TheCable that the official announcement of the transaction will be made in the course of the week by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The acquisition was midwifed by the CBN in a bid to further consolidate the banking industry.

Diamond Bank had last week announced its decision to drop its international operating licence to focus on national operations following capitalisation issues.

Uzoma Dozie, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday.

“With this approval, the bank will cease to operate as an international bank,” Dozie had said.

“The re-licensing as a national bank supports Diamond Bank’s objective of streamlining its operations to focus resources on the significant opportunities in the Nigerian retail banking market, and the economy as a whole.

“The move follows Diamond Bank’s decision to sell its international operations, which included the disposal of its West African Subsidiary in 2017 and Diamond Bank UK, the sale of which is currently in its final stages.

“The change to national bank status also enables the bank to maintain a lower minimum capital requirement of 10 per cent, as against 15 per cent required for international banks.”

The bank recorded its worst month on record in November with share plunging to 0.65k per unit

The Nigerian army has suspended the activities of the United Nations International Children Education Fund, UNICEF, in the north-eastern part of the country.

The army accused UNICEF of working for Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement by Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the army, the military said it took the action since the organisation had been sabotaging the war against insurgency.

“The Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE has observed with dismay that some of the activities of International humanitarian agencies and Non-governmental organisations’ operating in the North East have left so much to be desired,” the statement read.

“There is credible information that some of them are indulging in unwholesome practices that could further jeopardise the fight against terrorism and insurgency, as they train and deploy spies who support the insurgents and their sympathisers.

“It is baffling to note that some of these organisations have been playing the terrorists’ script with the aim to continue demoralising the troops who are doing so much to protect the lives of victims of Boko Haram Terrorism and safe guard them from wanton destruction of property and means the of livelihood. The Theatre Command considers the actions of these organisations as a direct assault and insult on the sensibilities of Nigerians, as they tend to benefit more from expanding the reign of terror on our people.

“Consequently, the Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE is suspending the operations of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the North East theatre until further notice. This has become inevitable since the organisation has abdicated its primary duty of catering for the wellbeing of children and the vulnerable through humanitarian activities and now engaged in training selected persons for clandestine activities to continue sabotaging the counter terrorism and Counter insurgency efforts of troops through spurious and unconfirmed allegations bothering on alleged violations of human rights by the military.”

Preach tolerance, Buhari tells Nigerians

Dailysunnews9ja

AHEAD of the 2019 elections, President Muhammadu Buhari, Friday, told Nigerians to preach tolerance and peaceful co-existence.

The President said doing so was a responsibility of all citizens of the country, who have a task of stopping selfish politicians from exploring the windows of religion and politicians to achieve their ill motives

President Buhari made the appeal when received a group known as the National Network for Community and Youth Development, NNCYD, led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed.

According to him, “The fact that you are crossing religious, political and ethnic boundaries in your engagements is praise worthy. Now we are in the season of political campaigns unfortunately some people will attempt to take this opportunity to propagate their hateful agenda.

“Therefore it is our collective responsibility to also step up by preaching tolerance and understanding.

“As a government we are doing our best but we need non-governmental organizations like the National Network for Community and Youth Development to also support us in delivering the message of peace and unity after all we only have one Nigeria, our only country.”

He commended the group for its good work, saying that the country needs more of such good groups, in order to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among citizens of the country.

But the President lamented the dangers involved in the spreading of rumours through the social media, which he said was meant to reshape the world.

He said, “In the past decade the world has seen some fundamental structural changes, a good example is the digital and cyber revolution that is still reshaping the world as we all know.

“In many instances, this development positively impacts billions across the globe however; on the contrary, the same platforms are used as tools to propagate divisions and hatred. Nigeria is not isolated from these influences.

“We are seeing rising instances where social media platforms are being used to propagate hatred, through religious, political and tribal groups. These spiteful message that insight violence and are posted by a handful of unpatriotic people anonymously.”

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the organisation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed said the aim of the group was to enlighten citizens of the country on the need to love one another, love the country and identify with good governance.

He said the group had since identified President Muhammadu Buhari as a champion of integrity and it will continue to support him.

Ahmed said though corruption was seriously fighting back, the President should maintain the fight, adding that with the support of few who are committed to the fight, he will surely succeed.

He said “At this point in time, Mr President, we have actualized our objective, established a first alliance foundation for positive change. This is in line with our realization of the fact that for so long this country has been governed under false pretenses.

“In our quest to make sure that Nigeria wakes up, we come and submit ourselves that we will rather persevere with temporary pains of following the path of truth rather than enjoying the comfort of deceit and falsehood in perpetuity.

“This is why at this point in time, we freely submit ourselves to the wonderful strides that you represent in this country: integrity and commitment to improve the quality of lives of Nigerians. This we did without being apologetic to anybody because we in Nigeria, if we did not come together to face the reality of adjusting the false life, and I can tell you I have been in government for quite sometimes but really, what we use to do must give way to the reality of our situation.

“In doing that we are bound to suffer, but the suffering for bringing integrity in this country is better, that is why the intellectuals here from the universities on their own, cooperating with the honorable members and partnering with our Christians brothers and sisters all over the country, we are determined to see that this country is changed for the better.

“The internalization of good things of life does not come with ease. That is why I said, this, country having gone through this rough path, we are a country in a hurry, people forget the past easily because sometimes they may not have known the past. Anybody who does not know the past will enjoy and dance for today, thereby, perpetually giving up his future.

“But we will not allow this to go on because we are Nigerians we must come together and do the correct thing. Even if it is one, two or three things that we continually do correct, we will definitely entrench a change in the system.

“We give you the necessary support because we know that you are a man of integrity, we know that you have insisted on doing things right in governance.

“Sir, this particular gathering, having been with them in the last five years, I can attest to the fact that at least, fifty percent of us are committed to seeing that the right thing is done and that you return elected in 2019.

“We commend your fight against corruption, but we have seen that it is also fighting back. If you can have even few people doing the right thing irruption and other vices will be forgotten sinner or later.”
