Re-elect Buhari to have presidency in 2023 - Osinbajo to southwest.

From Vice President Yemi Osinbajo  to the Southwest yesterday came a piece of advice: vote President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 2019 election to stand a good chance of producing his successor in 2023.

Osinbajo spoke in Oyo during a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

The vice president said onus is on the Southwest to show that  it wants to produce the president in 2023.

Buhari, according to him, has performed well to deserve a second term in office.

“The 2019 election is our own. We are not looking at 2019 but 2023,” he said.

“If we get it in 2019, Yoruba will get it in 2023. Because if we don’t get it in 2019, we may not get it in 2023 and it may take a very long time to get it.

“We need to look at tomorrow and not because of today. What we are doing now is for tomorrow and not for today.”

He said Buhari has shown that he has  zero tolerance for corruption.

His words: “What I know about Buhari is that he is an honest man. What he says he will do, he will do it.”

He urged the people of the Southwest to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Now, they are regrouping. These are the people that ruled for 16 years and they say they want to come back again. They are corrupt. Though, it is still difficult because no man or woman can build a house without a foundation,” he said.

Oba Adeyemi earlier in his address described Vice President Osinbajo as a cerebral lawyer who has excelled in his profession.

He said, “He is a good lawyer. The case he instituted on behalf of Lagos State when the federal government withheld the local government allocations in Lagos State during the Obasanjo regime, he won the case. And it was Yar’Adua that paid the money. The load you are carrying is big, Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, you will succeed.”

APC Postpones Governorship Campaign In Kwara Over Insecurity

The Kwara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday postponed its plan to launch Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s governorship election campaign over insecurity problem.
The campaign was scheduled to hold in Kosubosu, the headquarters of the Baruten Local Government Area of the state, before the abrupt cancellation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kosubosu is a border community with the Republic of Benin which is a journey of more than five hours from Ilorin.
Journalists and party supporters had gathered on Thursday morning for the political journey when a member of the Media Committee, Kayode Oyin-Zubair, conveyed the decision of the party to the media men.
NAN findings revealed that the party postponed the programme due to an alleged plan by some thugs to scuttle the event.
However, Mr Kehinde Musa, a party supporter in Kosubosu, expressed dismay over the postponement of the governorship campaign.
Musa noted that a mammoth crowd had gathered in Kosubosu to receive the APC governorship candidate before the information was relayed to them.
He stated that the massive APC supporters in the area would file out again when next the party decided to meet the people.
Meanwhile, Kwara APC chairman, Mr Bashir Bolarinwa, who expressed regret over the suspension in a statement on Thursday, blamed the postponement on ‘incontrovertible security reports.’
“The manifesto presentation ceremony of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, which was expected to witness a mammoth attendance today (Thursday) in Kosubosu, Baruten Local Government Area, was regrettably called off due to very strong and incontrovertible security reports.
“As a responsible party, we put the protection of the lives of our teeming party members and indeed enthusiastic supporters who were waiting to line our routes above other considerations.
“We, therefore, use this opportunity to appeal to our party faithful for the inconveniences caused them as many had already gathered at various departure points,” Abdulrazaq said.
He also announced that the party had taken full charge of the campaign structures, processes and activities for the purpose of delivering an effective mobilisation of all Kwarans for the victory of the party.
He said that a new date for the campaign take-off would be announced soon

Insurgency: Buhari, Other Lake Chad Basin Leaders Meet In Abuja

Insurgency: Buhari, Other Lake Chad Basin Leaders Meet In Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the Lake Chad Basin countries are currently in a meeting in Abuja.

Presidents of Chad, Niger, Central African Republic and Cameroon are in attendance at the meeting and President Buhari is the chairman.

The leaders during the meeting considered the report of the Defence and Security committee set up by the leaders in Ndjamena, Chad earlier in December.

The committee’s report is expected to overhaul strategies to counter Boko Haram and other security threat in order to stabilise the region.

Dailysunnews9ja

President Buhari during the opening ceremony of the meeting said he believes that military strategy must be complemented by the mobilisation and deployment of adequate resources.

According to him, this will ensure reconstruction, rehabilitation, and rebuilding of civil authority and provision of relief to affected persons.

The meeting holds a month after President Buhari traveled to N’djamena Chad to convene a similar meeting to review the security situation and intensify the efforts to end the insurgency in the region.

Nigerian Army suspends UNICEF activities in North East

Dailysunnews9ja

The Nigerian army has suspended the activities of the United Nations International Children Education Fund, UNICEF, in the north-eastern part of the country.

The army accused UNICEF of working for Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement by Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the army, the military said it took the action since the organisation had been sabotaging the war against insurgency.

“The Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE has observed with dismay that some of the activities of International humanitarian agencies and Non-governmental organisations’ operating in the North East have left so much to be desired,” the statement read.

“There is credible information that some of them are indulging in unwholesome practices that could further jeopardise the fight against terrorism and insurgency, as they train and deploy spies who support the insurgents and their sympathisers.

“It is baffling to note that some of these organisations have been playing the terrorists’ script with the aim to continue demoralising the troops who are doing so much to protect the lives of victims of Boko Haram Terrorism and safe guard them from wanton destruction of property and means the of livelihood. The Theatre Command considers the actions of these organisations as a direct assault and insult on the sensibilities of Nigerians, as they tend to benefit more from expanding the reign of terror on our people.

“Consequently, the Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE is suspending the operations of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the North East theatre until further notice. This has become inevitable since the organisation has abdicated its primary duty of catering for the wellbeing of children and the vulnerable through humanitarian activities and now engaged in training selected persons for clandestine activities to continue sabotaging the counter terrorism and Counter insurgency efforts of troops through spurious and unconfirmed allegations bothering on alleged violations of human rights by the military.”

Oshiomhole Attack Obasanjo, Atiku and PDP.

Oshiomhole
APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole

ABUJA – National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has launched a fierce attack on former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his support to his erstwhile estranged deputy, Atiku Abubakar who is the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the next general elections.

According to him, both Obasanjo and Atiku would be divinely punished at the polls in February, saying Atiku’s political infidelity would be his main albatross at the polls.
Oshiomhole spoke yesterday when he received women leaders of the APC from across the local governments of his home state, Edo who were at his private office on a solidarity visit.
The APC chairman also lambasted Messrs Atiku and Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the PDP, faulting their calls for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris and Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
He said while Atiku wants to replace the IGP, Secondus is bent on becoming the INEC Chairman with the sole aim of subverting the electoral process.
Oshiomhole also described as prodigal sons, some aggrieved governors of the party who have been threatening to work against its governorship candidates in their states, adding that the party would not immediately sanction them for anti-party activities as their main punishment would come from the electorate.
