Omokri begs Buhari to negotiate Leah Sharibu's release

Omokri begs Buhari to negotiate Leah Sharibu's release

Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Saturday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to negotiate with Boko Haram over the release of Leah Sharibu.

Omokri made the appeal while sharing a photograph of Buhari and his children.

The former presidential aide insisted that Leah’s father, Nathan Irmiya would also love to take a photograph with his daughter, hence the need for negotiation.

Sharibu was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on the night of February 19, 2018 alongside her schoolmates from Government Science College, Dapchi in Yobe State.

The abducted student has remained in custody of the insurgents for refusing to denounce her Christian faith.

However, Omokri, in a tweet wrote: “Dear @MBuhari,

“Leah’s father, Nathan Irmiya Sharibu, also wants to take a picture like this with his daughter, Leah Sharibu.

“Please, I BEG on my KNEES, enter into negotiation with Boko Haram to #FreeLeahSharibu.

“Please join me in RETWEETING till Muhammadu Buhari sees this.”

Governorship Elections: Prince Dapo Abiodun won Governorship Election in Ogun State

Governorship Elections: Prince Dapo Abiodun won Governorship Election in Ogun State

Writer: Gabriel

Dailysunnews9ja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof Abel Idowu Olayinka, who announced the final result at INEC office, Abeokuta on Monday, said Abiodun polled 241,670 votes to defeat his arch-rival and candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adekunle Akinlade who had 222,153 votes.

Olayinka who declared the winner of the Saturday’s gubernatorial election at exactly 1am, puts the margin between the winner and the runner up at 19,517.

According to him, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 110,422 votes; Buruji Kashamu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 70,290 votes, while Dimeji Bankole of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) scored 9,666 votes.

Olayinka, who was flanked by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof Abdulganiyu Raji, and some security chiefs in the state, said “That Adedapo Abiodun of APC having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and returned elected.”

The results declared showed that out of the 2,375,003 voters registered, only 708,807 were accredited during the election, while the total valid votes was put at 680,947.

Daily Trust reports a total of 20,969 votes were rejected during the election, while 7,100 votes were cancelled in some polling units across the state.

Meanwhile, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State and its gubernatorial candidate, Adekunle Akinlade have rejected the election results as announced by the INEC, citing alleged manipulation of results.

The APM Campaign Director General, Sarafa Ishola who spoke alongside Akinlade at the party’s secretariat at Leme, Abeokuta, alleged that gubernatorial election which began peacefully on Saturday was allegedly hijacked by hoodlums and “unidentified uniform men” during the collation stage, and further manipulated the results in favour of APC.

Akinlade, on his part, said “The people of Ogun state have been raped”, while urging them to maintain peace while the leadership of APM explores all legal means to undo the alleged injustice.

However, the Chairman of APC in the state, Yemi Sanusi, noted that APM’s rejection means “acceptance of defeat”, saying the victory of APC was long expected.

“What Buhari government is doing at the top, people are satisfied. Go to the town and you will see that immediately they declare the result, you will see how happy the people will be,” Sanusi said in a statement in Abeokuta.

Daily Trust reports that APC won in 11 LGAs, APM won in 6 while ADC won 2, just as PDP got 1 LG. Ogun state has a total of 20 LGAs.

Atiku sets up legal team to help win mandate lost in 2019 presidential election

Dailysunnews9ja

PDP candidate Atiku has set up a team of lawyers to lead his defense against APC’s President Buhari at the elections tribunal

The former vice president announced the development through a statement by his media aide Paul Ibe
Atiku’s legal team is led by Dr Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Ibe says

Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 presidential election, has set up a legal team that will challenge the victory of the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in court.

Newsmen reports that the inauguration of his legal team, headed by Dr Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), on Saturday, was announced by his media aide Paul Ibe through a statement.

“I have just inaugurated my legal team and charged them with the responsibility of ensuring that our stolen mandate is retrieved,” Abubakar said in the statement.

“I am encouraged by the presence of fearless men and women of the Bench.

“The judiciary which had in the past discharged itself ably is once again being called upon to deliver judgement on this matter that will be untainted by lucre and uncowed by the threat of immoral power.”

Meanwhile, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied that the party or Atiku Abubakar, its candidate in the Saturday, February 23 presidential election made any demands of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was declared winner by INEC.

PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement he issued on Saturday, March 2, accused the presidency and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to the opposition.

Ologbondiyan said the party had no interest in negotiating with anybody over the outcome of the election.

The PDP claimed it had results different from what INEC declared and that the party would provide that and evidence of manipulations before the election tribunal.

Daily updates: Sultan of Sokoto reveal Reasons for Buhari's victory for second term

Sultan of Sokoto finally speaks on Buhari’s victory, reveals reason president won second term.

Dailysunnews9ja

Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar

The umbrella organisation for Muslims in Nigeria, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, on his reelection.

It described President Buhari’s reelection as a reward for his good character and transparent honesty.

The organization, therefore, advised the president to continue to be focused, fair, and firm in his administration’s efforts to reposition the country for good.

In a statement by the chairperson of its media committee, Femi Abbas, the organisation said it would continue to pray for the President’s success.

The statement reads:

“In appreciation of the Almighty Allah for His boundless favours on Nigeria through Your Excellency and acknowledgement of His honour in making your re-election a success, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, congratulates you on your electoral victory and wishes you another successful tenure as President of our beloved country.

“As Your Excellency is aware, you are a pride not only to us as an Ummah but also the entire black race by virtue of your unique personality and immense qualities which have endeared you to millions of minds, including those of us in the Council and our affiliate bodies. It is a sign of walaayah (friendship) with Allah that a person’s love is planted in the hearts of people.

“You are a refreshing source of inspiration to many people all over the world as a symbol of unimpeachable character, transparent honesty, unimpregnable integrity and unassailable righteousness.

“As Allah says in the Glorious Qu’ran, ‘is there any reward for good other than good?’ (Q55:66), Nigerians in their overwhelming majority have rewarded Your Excellency’s goodness with a vote of confidence in you through the last February 23 presidential election.

“We have no doubt that you are aware that leadership is a trust and that as Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, every shepherd (leader) will be asked about his flock (followers); yet, we must enjoin you to continue to do your best in the interest of the country.

“We urge you to continue to be fair and firm in leading Nigeria to where she deserves, despite the unfounded blackmail and character assassination by those whose pre-occupation is to eliminate Muslims and Islam from the public space in order to continue to use religion to exploit and extort gullible individuals.

“We urge you to be wary of hypocritical do-gooders contriving a non-existent tension for relevance when indeed by their partisan pre-election activities, they cannot genuinely lay claim to neutrality and sincerity.

“Our prayer is that the Almighty Allah continues to grant you good health, long life and divine wisdom to steer the ship of Nigeria to the shore of greatness in peace, development, security and decorum. We also beseech Him to continue to guide and guard you in the discharge of your onerous duties so that you will remain a pre-eminent role model that you are for all incorruptible persons,” the NSCIA said.

Election results 2019: Rivers commissioner, 13 others detained over illegal possession of ballot papers

Rivers commissioner, 13 others detained over illegal possession of ballot papers

13 persons have been detained by the Nigerian Army over illegal possession of ballot papers and bribe taking

Those arrested are Rivers Commissioner for Urban Development, Dr Reason Williams and Opokri Wanaka, a serving member in the Rivers state House of Assembly

Others are a army major and three police officers accused of collecting bribes to compromise election materials kept inside the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria

No fewer than 13 persons have been detained by the Nigerian Army over illegal possession of ballot papers and bribe taking during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Among those arrested are Rivers commissioner for Urban Development, Dr Reason Williams and Opokri Wanaka, a serving member in the Rivers state House of Assembly.

Others are a army major and three police officers accused of collecting bribes to compromise election materials kept inside the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Col. Aminu Iliyasu, spokesman of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, spoke when he paraded the 13 suspects in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Iliyasu said that Williams and Wanaka were arrested for attempting to induce troops stationed in Akinima Area of Rivers to rig the election in favour of an unnamed political party in the state.

”On Feb. 23, at about 7 a.m, a member of Rivers State House of Assembly, Opokri Wanaka in company of Dr Reason Williams, Rivers Urban Development Commissioner visited our troop’s camp in Akinima.

”Thereafter, Opokri offered the commander of the camp some amount of money that he removed from his pocket but the officer rejected the offer and sent the duo away,” he said.

He claimed that the two government officials later resurfaced at an army checkpoint in Mbiama to plead for the release of eight unnamed suspects caught in possession of sensitive election materials.

The army spokesman said the eight suspects were driving a white Hilux vehicle with a Rivers State Government plate number L02-03 RV RIVERS during their arrest.

According to him, a carton and two bundles of election ballot papers were discovered in the vehicle which immediately raised eyebrows – as the occupants were neither INEC staff nor ad hoc staff.

”Incidentally, during the course of our on-the-spot interrogations, the same Wanaka and Williams appeared on the spot and told troops that the vehicle was part of INEC convoy that was left behind.

”Wanaka and Williams demanded that the vehicle be allowed to go but our men refused. Later, Williams put a call to a governor (names withheld).

”Thereafter, the governor requested to speak with our officer who declined but requested the governor to call the General Officer Commanding the Division.

”After much resistance, the officer gave Williams his phone number to pass on to the governor. Soon after, the governor called the officer via WhatsApp message,” the army spokesman said.

Iliyasu, however, played a 10 minute recording to the hearing of journalists, which purportedly was made by the governor to the army officer.

Legit.ng had reported that Atiku Abubakar was declared the winner of the presidential election in Cross River state.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 295,737 votes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
