2019 Election: Updates for Nigeria’s highly anticipated 2019 General Elections.

Updates for Nigeria’s highly anticipated 2019 General Elections.

The 2019 general elections are the sixth in the nation since 1999, the year Nigeria returned to democratic rule, and the first since the All Progressives Congress ousted the Peoples Democratic Party from power after it held sway for 16 years.

A total of 73 candidates are in the presidential race, according to INEC, including incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, and a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who are the front line flag bearers.

The National Assembly election has hundreds of candidates across 91 registered political parties jostling for the 109 available seats in the Senate and the 360 spots in the House of Representatives.

After an intriguing period of political drama and campaigning, heralded by defections and war of words, and the postponement of polls by a week, it is time for Nigerians to give their verdict.

In all, 84,004,084 citizens registered for the elections, 72,755,502 of that number have Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and are expected to vote in the 119,973 polling units spread across the 36 states and the nation’s capital Abuja.

2019Election: Zero count for Buhari in Ekweremadu’s ward

Nigeria Decides: Buhari gets zero vote in Ekweremadu’s ward.

Dailysunnews9ja

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cleared all votes cast at the two polling units at Amachalla Primary School Mpu, in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Mpu is the country home of the Deputy Senate President and PDP Senatorial candidate for Enugu West, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

The Senator’s people delivered 100 percent of the votes cast for the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu, with the All Progressives Congress, APC scoring zero.

There was wild celebration by the youths as INEC officials concluded counting of the votes.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the counting of votes, a PDP stakeholder from the community, Mr. Bright Ekweremadu said it was expected because it is the Deputy President of the Senate’s ward and “so we don’t expect any other party to come in.

“For this community, we are overwhelmed, we are happy, it’s a sign that our Senator is representing us well and we are happy with him and the only way to pay him back is to cast our votes for him. And we have done that not only for Senate but the Presidency and House of Reps.”

Newsmen report that out of the 499 valid votes cast, PDP scored 468 votes for Presidency, 490 for Senate and 492 for House of Reps. Other parties scored zero
