From Ojuelegba to the world- The success story of Starboy Wizkid Author

Dailysunnews9ja HOME » NEWS »

History will be kind to the likes of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid.

Many have called the Starboy a national treasure and frankly, he has earned that name for putting Nigeria on the map with his passion for music.

From the slums of Ojuelegba, Wizkid has risen to the level of a world-class star and has had his music played virtually in several corners around the world. They say music unites souls and the young man has evidently delivered tunes that will play in the hearts of millions of his fans scattered around the globe.

 GROWING UP

Ayo was born on July 16, 1990 and grew up in Surulere in his family home with a Christian mother and Muslim father along with 12 female siblings. The young boy was majorly influenced by music from King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti, and Bob Marley which he admitted to being the cushion to his heart while growing up in a polygamous home. As an aspiring musician, he had to convince his father of his passion by making frequent visits to the studio. He got lucky when Naeto C mentored and coached him at 15 to activate his fullest potential.

IN THE BEGINNING At age 11,

Interestingly, the young boy was already shooting for the stars and made his first album with one of Nigeria's celebrated music icons, late OJB Jezreel. The seven-track album was a collaborative one with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. With the stage name, Lil' Prinz, in 2006, Ayo gained the support of family and friends when he released the album in church.

Little did Ayo know his breakthrough was to activate eight years after. Thousands of Nigerians first came to know Wizkid after he was discovered by singer, Banky W in 2009.

Wasting no time, he was signed on to record label Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). Who much is given, much is expected, in 2010, the 19-year-old at the time, officially launched his career with the release of Hola At Your Boy, which gained him the award for Next rated at the Headies.

With the song he immediately gained the attention of many young Nigerians who fell easily for his cuteness and swag. Unrelenting, he followed it with release of his first studio album in 2001 titled Superstar.

The album had major hit singles such as Tease Me/Bad Guys, Don't Dull, Love My Baby, Pakurumo and Oluwa Lo Ni, all which rocked Nigerian charts for weeks.

SETTING THE TIDE Having gained more confidence and acceptance, the young man went on to release a second studio album titled Ayo in September 2014.

The album was loaded with hit singles such as Jaiye Jaiye, On Top Your Matter, One Question, Joy, Bombay and Show You the Money, all which sealed his place as a great artiste in the Nigerian entertainment industry. He however didn't stop there, in 2015, Starboy decided to tell his success story and announced his plans to release a third studio album.

Although he didn't come through, he marked his terrain as an international superstar with the release of Ojuelegba and went on to perform with the likes of Chris Brown as well as do major collaborations with big names such as Drake and Skepta.

Still on the matter, he managed to release and EP titled Sounds From The Other Side, which again reminded his fans and millions of people around the world the stuff he was really made of.

In 2016, Wizkid regained his position as one of the greatest artiste from Nigeria when he featured on a song with Drake titles One Dance. The single reached number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position it kept for 10 non-consecutive weeks.

A STAR IS BORN

In March 2013, when Wizzy baby started having issues with E.M.E over contract negotiations, things got really ugly and following the expiration of his 5-year contract with the record label, Wizkid left the and established his label imprint Starboy Entertainment.

In September 2017, the Starboy sold out Royal Albert Hall in London. The success of the that day made him vow to repeat such with the iconic 02 Arena. It was only a matter of time, in April, 2018, tickets to Afrorepublik had already sold out weeks before Wizzy took the stage.

Grand performances from the likes of Mr Eazi, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Not3s, Yxng Bane and Maleek Berry had the crowd of 20,000 cheering and dancing in excitement before Wizkid stepped out to take the fans on a wild roller coaster of good music. Needless to say, he made history that very night.

 DOLCE AND GABANNA
After the 02 Arena, people assumed the Starboy had done the greatest until he was unmasked as the first African artist to walk at one of the famed house’s shows of Dolce and Gabanna.

Wizkid walked alongside world famous model, Noami Campbell. The same woman who introduced hi at his Afrorepublik show in London just few weeks prior.

According to reports, the 27-year-old superstar is worth about N4 billion and for the Baba Nla, this is only just the beginning and fans are elated with anticipation over his soon-to-be released album he has promised them he is working on.

For anyone who ever doubted growth and progress, Wizkid has proven over the years, the true power of dreams and passion.

Playboy Playmate will avoid jail time for body-shaming incident.

After getting a warning from the court, Playboy Playmate Dani Mathers stepped up her community service game and will officially avoid spending any time in jail for her body-shaming incident last year. According to TMZ, Mathers’ legal team appeared in court Wednesday with proof that she completed the 240 hours of community service cleaning up graffiti around Los Angeles required by her conviction for taking a photo of a nude 71-year-old woman. She posted the image online with a mocking comment about the stranger. Mathers was offered 45 days in jail for the incident or 30 days of graffiti removal, she chose the latter.
The outlet reports that she appeared in court in November having only completed 56 hours of her 240 sentence. The judge reportedly told her in no uncertain terms that she needed to make more headway or risk jail time. It seems now she took the warning to heart.
As previously reported, the 30-year-old took a photo of a woman in the locker room of an LA Fitness without her permission. She posted the image with the caption, “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.”
“There is no doubt I regret that stupid choice,” the 2015 Playmate of the Year told Us Weekly. “I am sorry that it happened to this woman. But I am not sorry about what happened to me. I would not have this push to create positivity and try to change people’s minds about how they act without thinking. My life flipped upside down. But it’s a blessing in disguise.”
Mathers is still on probation as part of her sentence until 2020. In that time, she’s prohibited from posting photos of other people without their express permission. However, given the completion of her community service, she’ll officially avoid jail for her post.

President Mohammed Buhari Paid NGN450bn Fuel Subsidy-Senator Marafa

Senator Kabiru Marafa, chairman of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), on Wednesday told his colleagues that the Federal Government has so far paid N450 billion as subsidy on Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as fuel.
He said the said amount paid by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), was not approved by the National Assembly as required by law.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari, who doubles as the substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources, gave the approval that subsidy be paid on fuel.
The shocking report submitted by his Senate committee, indicated that the Federal Government spent a total of N784 billion on alleged fraudulent practices in the import of petroleum products in 2017.
The report of the panel put the total surplus in the volume of petroleum imported in 2017 by both the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the marketers at 5.9 billion litres, which, when multiplied by the N133 landing, cost gives the sum of N784 billion.
It noted that shortages in the volume of fuel claimed to have been supplied by the NNPC and the independent marketers, were major factors that led to the scarcity of fuel nationwide.
The Senator Kabiru Marafa-led committee, explained that “since the NNPC said it is importing 30 cargoes of 30,000MT (Minimum) of PMS monthly, through the DSDP Scheme, it means NNPC is importing 30 x 30,000 x 1,341 = 1,206,900,000 litres of PMS monthly.
“Therefore, at an average consumption of 35 Million litres/ day, NNPC said the country consumes between 27-30 million litres/day from January to September and 30-40 Million litres/day from September to December, 2017.
“From the above figures, NNPC’s monthly supply is supposed to last the country for about 35 days at 35 Million litres/ day.”
The report further pointed out that “the marketers, on the other hand, received from Government about $1,669,180,182 at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) rate of N305 to a dollar to import Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) from January to August, 2017. This means that marketers were supposed to bring into the country about 3.8 billion litres of PMS at a landing cost of N133. In other words, marketers’ supply were supposed to serve the country for about 109 days at 35 million litres daily in 2017.
adsbygoogle “The implication is that NNPC has five days surplus every 3 month, 60 days surplus in a year, added to the marketers’ 109 days supply gives a total of 169 days supply surplus of 35 million litres/day or 5.9 billion litres. The question is who consumes this surplus before we ask of Subsidy?”
The committee further listed some causes of fuel scarcity to include supply gap caused by refusal of some Direct Sale Direct Purchase (DSDP) contractors to take October crude oil cargoes because of the fear of incurring huge losses occasioned by the rise in the price of PMS in the international spot market, which is always the case during winter months.
The report also listed as a factor, the fact that NNPC refused to listen to genuine complaints made by the marketers during the signing of the DSDP contract.
Other factors that caused the scarcity according to the panel, include “withdrawal of marketers from importation because of the rise in the international price of PMS, occasioned by the rise in the price of crude oil and the effect of winter; the claims by the oil marketers of non-payment of subsidy arrears by the Government to the tune of N800billion incapacitated their operations through the dearth of operational capital; rumours of impending pump Price increase by Government in December or 1st week of January, that went viral on social media”.
The report further noted that massive smuggling across our borders was a major cause and added that the NNPC claimed that about 4,600 trucks were smuggled out of the country during the crisis period.
Another cause, according to the panel, is the lack of harmonious working relationship between the Ministry (headed by the Honourable Minister of State) and NNPC (headed by Honourable Minister of State) and NNPC (headed by the GMD) as evidenced even in their presentations; while the Minister attributed the crisis to supply gap, the GMD was quick to deny any gap in supply.
“Attitude of some bad marketers and some Nigerians who saw the crisis as an opportunity to make more money was also listed,” the report noted.
Other causes of scarcity according to the report “are the abysmal performance of the nation’s refineries despite the huge investment in their repairs; the issue of sabotage, though could not be established, but could still not be completely ruled out especially when some newspapers reported large deposits of hoarded petroleum products discovered by security personnel across the country; and trucking as the only means of transporting petroleum products across the country coupled with bad roads, distance and other challenges affects distribution of products
Meanwhile, allegations of corrupt practices in the oil industry, as well as persisting scarcity of petroleum products across the country, generated serious protests and criticisms against the management of the NNPC on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.
For failing to meet up with its expectations, the upper chamber rejected the report submitted by its Petroleum Resources (Downstream) committee which earlier investigated the matter.
The Senate declared that what the committee did was not a true representation of its integrity. It said the failure of the Marafa-led committee to investigate and expose the new wave of subsidy imposed by the Federal Government, despite the absence of an approval by the National Assembly to that effect was unacceptable.
The Red Chamber instructed the committee to go back and do a more thorough investigation on the real volume of petroleum products imported into the country, as well as issues leading to the scarcity.
The Senate, however, directed its committee on Public Account to conduct an open investigation on reports of imposition of new fuel subsidy regime without the approval of the National Assembly.
The motion on the need to probe the re-introduction of subsidy was sponsored by Senator Dino Melaye who believed that the main issue that the Senate should concern itself with is the alleged illegal subsidy.
He informed his colleagues that it would be an act of gross irresponsibility to spend money without appropriation. According to Melaye, if all these blazing acts of corruption is allowed to persist in an administration that should be fighting corruption, it means “we are not fighting corruption, but entrenching abuse of power.”
adsbygoogle
He suggested that the executive arm of government must be made to refund all monies it spent without appropriation by both chambers of the National Assembly.
Senator Solomon Adeola, noted that it was unfortunate that the same fraud that had always been perpetrated in the oil sector has persisted in the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government.
“I have information that the NNPC overshot its budget by N3 trillion in four years. Who gave the approval and why?” Adeola queried.
On why the report of the committee was rejected, Senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, submitted that “the report does not represent the integrity of the Senate.”
In a comment at the end of the debate, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, noted that though the committee’s report attempted to address issues of scarcity and the volume of petroleum products imported and consumed daily, it was not comprehensive enough.
According to Saraki, “if we are consuming 27 million litres per day and the NNPC is bringing in 40 million litres per day, what about the difference?”

Does masturbating create herpes or disease?

Questions that most people ask about sex and masturbating, could get one so confused about the differences..what do you think about sex and masturbating? Comments after reading.... This point from a close friend..

I am a 29-year old man. I have been in arelationship but distance is separating me from my love who is now living in a far-away state. I get tempted to date other women but couldn’t bring myself to do it. I cannot cheat on my love because we love each other and hope to re-unite very soon. We have vowed to live together and not betray each other.

Although we are not yet married, we are keeping it in view and besides, she is a good woman. But I masturbate and it worries me. Can one get any form of sickness from masturbating because I feel drained after engaging in the act?

A lot of people feel guilty after masturbating and some see it as cheating on their partner even though the act does not involve another sex partner. Besides, there is perceived spiritual dirtiness associated with the act. But the wonderful thing about masturbation is that you can’t catch a disease from yourself (or we must already have the disease). Sexually transmitted infections (STI) have to be caught from someone who has the infection.

They spread by rubbing of skin-to-skin or transferring of body fluidin sex with a partner. This is a reason why condoms protect because they prevent body fluid going from partner to another and reduce skin-to-skin contact.Touching ourselves for pleasure with masturbation is something most people do especially if they don’t have asexual partner.

It’s natural to feel some pent-up sexual frustration and masturbation can relieve that. There has been a lot of fears and claims that masturbation was bad or a risk. But this has usually been a moral or religious view that it is wrong to masturbate.Herpes has to be caught from someone who has it. What might confuse people is that herpes is usually around the mouth but can be spread to the genitals by touch or oral sex. But we don’t usually spread our own herpes further because our body has made antibodies to control the virus that causes herpes....

Nigerian  Military Clears the Air on Monitoring of Social Media

Director Defence Information, Major General John Enenche

The Director Defence Information, Major General John Enenche, has defended the military’s decision to carry out social media surveillance, saying it is necessary for the military to get vital information that will aid its activities.

Enenche spoke about the controversial surveillance during an appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast programme Sunrise Daily on Wednesday morning, a weeks after he told Channels Television that the military is monitoring the activities of Nigerians on the social media, sparking outrage.

When asked on Sunrise Daily if it is part of the military’s role to carry out such a surveillance, Enenche said the objective is not to curtail freedom of expression but to aid the military with planning. Despite the outrage the military has no plans of stopping the surveillance.
“We are monitoring the social media to sieve out information to help us in our planning. In the military we cannot arrest anybody for that, we cannot. Surveillance is observing, getting information. That is what we are doing so that we can be proactive. So that we can get information,” Enenche said.

“The Social Media is a platform where people communicate with themselves, a platform where anybody can join and you can get information. Surveillance is observing, that is what we are doing so that we can be active.”
Enenche during the interview also said the military is still observing Boko Haram insurgents closely despite claims that they are tired of fighting the Federal Government.

“We are following up because it is not unexpected. The actions we had put in place in the past. The reinforcement and the reinvigoration of our actions. We started with clearance operations which is supposed to dovetail into dominating the whole area and now we have seen the results,” he said.

“We cut off the lines of supply and communication and then there is pressure on them. Their helping center and activity in Sambisa forest has been knocked off.’’
On what the military is planning to do with the information it is getting, he said, “The information we are getting, we are yet to convert it into intelligence. We are not taking it at surface level because sometimes it might even be a decoy to divert our attention.

“So, professionally we are handling it to ensure that what they are telling us is true intelligence and that is the situation of things. But, I will tell you that It is 60% closer to the truth that they are fatigued and they are giving up.’’

Now that you are back …, Charly boy writes Buhari

On August 21, 2017 11:23 am

In his letter to PMB,he wrote..

Dear Mr. President Sir: When I learned that you would be returning yesterday, I was glad because it means you eventually listened to our cries and yearnings. President Muhammadu Buhari and CharlyBoy You have returned at a time when our country needs you most to surmount the crucibles battering us as a people and a nation. Though for a very steep price, we never allowed our voices to go unheard and we are glad you ultimately listened to us. You have returned at a time when our great country is battling a slew of disastrous storms. This is a difficult time in our national history where insightful and sagacious leadership is greatly required. Now that you are back stronger, I would like you to become the rescuer that our country terribly needs at this trying time. As you may know, millions of students are currently at home doing nothing because their schooling was suddenly disrupted by the decision of their disgruntled lecturers to go on an indefinite strike. Some of these students are 3 months away from becoming graduates. This is the time to rekindle their hope before they become a nonentity to themselves and nuisance to the society. You must expediently attend to our ever-debilitating education sector, massively increase the budget for education and treat not only the ministers and permanent secretaries but also the lecturers and school heads alright. If the lecturers are well-paid and paid as at when due, they will gleefully impart knowledge onto our children who will become the leaders of this great nation tomorrow. Ensuing from my research, no Nigerian university is currently among the top 20 universities in Africa. This is a shame for a country touted as the Giant of Africa. We must raise the standard of our education sector tremendously. A country with a vibrant education is a country with a bright future. By investing massively in education, we indubitably bolster productivity in our economy and also transformational innovations that would avail our country of real greatness. Further to this Mr. President, one of the most pernicious threats beleaguering us today is insecurity of lives and properties. We are constantly being battered and forced to the grim reaper by different monsters in different quarters of the nation. In the north, the Boko Haram sect, Fulani herdsmen, the October 1st ultimatum and the IPOB agitation still depredating lives and properties. The people in other parts of the country are not safe either. Kidnappers are increasing by the day and hoodlums are flooding the streets every other day. This is the time to deliver on the mandate the Nigerian people gave to you. I believe that you will take every necessary step to quickly bring an end to these national threats just as you work assiduously towards exterminating the perennial economic hardship besetting the country. I wish you long life and sound health Mr. President. Once again, you are welcome! Areafada (CharlyBoy) President of all Frustrated Nigerians.
