Entertainment News: Banky W Speaks On Long-term Beef With Wizkid

Banky W breaks silence on ‘Beef’ with Wizkid

Popular singer cum politician, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W has finally addressed reports of his alleged fight with Wizkid

Reports had it that Banky W was not in good terms with Wizkid after the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer missed his wedding to Adesua.

But, reacting, Banky W said his relationship with Wizkid still stands even as he described the singer as his younger brother.

He said: “I think people unfairly judged Wiz and a lot of them were a little bit too harsh on him for missing my wedding.

Many people forget that around the time of my traditional wedding was also when One Africa Music Fest was going on in Dubai.

So, there were many other artistes at the event, who were struggling, trying to make it back to catch up with the wedding.

“In fact, Tiwa Savage had to take the last available economy seat in the plane, even though she had an upper-class ticket for a few days later, just to get her back in time for my wedding.

So, it wasn’t just Wizkid that missed it, a lot of people who were at the concert did. Either way, people should know that the relationship between Wizkid and I is deeper than any fame or fortune.

Wizkid is my younger brother, he has been for a very long time and that is never going to change.

“We love each other and that’s my brother for life. And honestly, the same goes for Skales, Xclusive, Niyola, Shaydee, MasterKraft , Suka Sounds, Timothy King etc.

Everyone we worked with at EME during the early years. There’s a bond between us all, it’s a family affair. No matter what happens, family remains family. Family first, family forever. ”

The Life and Career Of The Nigerian RnB singer Banky W | Dailysunnews9ja

Banky W has managed to maintain a healthy career in the Nigerian music industry and from the look of things, he doesn't seem to be slowing down any moment. However, before he became the music legend, Banky W was once a young returnee whose dreams of becoming a mega music star were nothing but dreams.

Although he had been in the music business earlier, he gained a rapid recognition in Nigerian when he released the song Ebute Metta sampling Rihanna's 2007 hit single Umbrella. While he received criticisms from several people who believed he lacked originality and wouldn't last, Banky W remained determined and soon excelled in his music career.

Background

Born Olubankole Wellington to Nigerian parents in the US March 27, 1981, his family moved back to Nigeria when he was just 5. Having done his primary and secondary education, he returned to further his tertiary education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York on a scholarship, studying engineering. Growing up in a close-knitted family of 5, Banky W started displaying his music talent at a very tender age as he reportedly sang in the church choir as a kid.
While in the Polytechnic Institute, he started the record label EME in 2002. After he was done with school, Banky W made the brave decision to return to Nigeria in 2009, to pursue a career in the music industry. A move not so many people can comprehend in present day Nigeria what with the increasing difficulty in the standard of living. He established the record label and signed artists like Niyola, Shaydee, Skales and Wizkid which would later prove to be one of his best moves yet.

Career

Prior to his move back to Nigerian, Banky W released his debut album, Back In The Building which earned him the 2003 award for R&B/Soul Artist of the Year at the Urban Independent Music Awards. However, he became a household name after he released the much talked about single, Ebute Metta which he did, sampling the instrumentals of Rihanna's hit song, Umbrella. Although the song became a hit, many people saw him as just another wannnabe singer who lacked originality and wouldn't last long in the spotlight. Well, Banky W proved them wrong as he continued to soar with the several hit songs that followed.

However, what many people don't know is that prior to the release of Ebute Metta and before his move back to Nigeria, he had released his first album titled Back In the Building in 2005 and it received major recognition in the US. The song, My Regret earned him awards and accolades, one of which was the US Songwriting award in 2006.

Love life

In the year 2017, Banky W broke a lot of hearts in a rather shocking manner after he revealed he was dating Nollywood sweetheart, Adesua Etomi. After they both starred in the hit film, The Wedding Party, as love interests, many people hoped they two would end up together but very few knew there was already something cooking between the two.

Considered one of Nigeria's favourite celebrity couple, they two are literally everybody's love goal

Why I married Adesua – Banky W

Why I married Adesua – Banky W

Celebrity couple, Banky W and Adesua are again trending online following the release of their documentary ‘The wellingtons.’
The couple in the documentary showed on Saturday revealed the highlights of their relationship and wedding ceremony.

On Banky W’s part, he revealed that they had been in the relationship since 2015, adding that they started dating after he slid into Adesua’s Dm on Twitter.
According to him, he never planned to date or marry anyone from the entertainment industry but got star struck after he realised Adesua was spiritually filled.

He said, “I met Adesua in 2015 and after inquiring about her from her manager, Isioma, i went online to search for her and found her social media handles.
“I looked her up online and I liked what I saw. I googled her, stalked her on the gram and a day or two later, I slid into her DM like the real man that I am.

“I had two defining moments with Adesua. One was before we started speaking. It was actually when I was stalking her and I saw a video of her and her childhood friends singing worship songs and I felt like this is really refreshing to find someone in our line of work that would readily show this part of them.

“The second part when I knew was when we took a private trip somewhere and it was the first time that she danced with me and at this point, I already knew she was a spiritual girl and a praying woman. But if i can confess, I was a little bit worried that when it comes to the turnups and the fun, I wasnt sure if she would be free like that and the very first time she danced with me, they were playing Rihanna’s ”Work” and she danced with me. Ladies and Gentlemen, once you have the spiritual and physical, you close shop, you move.

”I wasn’t specifically looking for an entertainer as a wife because of what I presumed, but she took me off the balance.
“I am glad i married Adesua because she understands my business and the pressure that comes with it.
Speaking on BBN host, Ebuka’s ‘Agbada’ which ‘broke’ the internet on his traditional wedding, Banky said he asked Ebuka if his Agbada was finer than his, and he replied that, ”it might be”
Banky in conclusion urged Nigerians to pray for them as that is all their relationship needs to be more prefect than the wedding.

2019: Tuface, Banky W speaks on Lagos protest march

Popular Nigerian singers, Tuface Idibia and Banky W, on Friday joined dozens of civil society activists in Lagos to march for voter education of Nigerians.

The activists converged on the National Stadium in Surulere and marched for about four kilometres to the Lagos office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

EnoughisEnough, EiE Nigeria, the organisers of the rally, said the mass voter mobilisation drive, which was taking place simultaneously in 18 other states across Nigeria, was to encourage citizens to protest at all tiers of government with their votes.

“We are here to mobilise as many new voters as possible,” Banky W told newsmen.
“We feel like Nigeria has remained facing some of the same issues Fela sang about 40 years ago and the only way to cause real change is to get involved, we want every person that is eligible to vote to go out and register to vote,” he added.
Banky W said he had issued a challenge for 100,000 people to pledge to get at least 10 people each to vote.

“Now the first 100 people that actually get a 100 people, like a 100 new registered voters, we’ll give then N10,000. We are not telling you who to vote for, we don’t even care who is running at this time, we just want a new voting bloc. We want millions of new voters to be registered so that now they have to pay attention to what the people want.

“Nigeria is the same way because of failed leadership, but also because of citizen apathy, citizens just don’t care, we are used to it, we are used to the same problems but insanity is doing the same thing all the time and expecting a different result.

“So if we continue to sit around and complain and tweet and talk, and that’s all we do, there’s never going to be any change. 40 years from now our children are going to be facing the same problems.”
On his part, Tuface said, “We are just here to encourage Nigerians to encourage Nigerians to go and get their voter’s cards, make sure that they vote during the election.

“Many people sit at home, at the end of the day they complain, somebody that doesn’t vote, you don’t have any voice to speak about who was elected or what they are doing but when you vote, if the person ‘dey’ misbehave, you fit talk, so let us be involved.”
