Fake Colombian expatriate bags 2-years jail term for defrauding hotel in Lagos

A magistrate court in Isolo area of Lagos State has sentenced a fake Colombian expatriate, Pablo Macmillano, to two years imprisonment for defrauding De Grandeur Silver Hotel, Ajao Estate N234,000.

Macmillano, whose real name is Oluwadare Olushola, a native of Ogun State, Nigeria, alongside an accomplice, who is still on the run, were convicted for defrauding De silver grandeur hotel located at 4, Agbor Close, off Osolo way Ajao Estate, Lagos of the aforementioned amount, a bill incurred for a week of enjoying the hotel’s expensive hospitality, under the false pretext of being a foreign expatriate from Colombia.

As explained by the prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, Macmillano and his undisclosed accomplice had checked-in into the hotel on Thursday, November 22, 2018, dressed like foreigners who were under the sponsorship of Prime Store Services, a Nigerian company, as claimed by Macmillano.

Having spent six days without paying a dime, the hotel invited the police, which led to the subsequent revelation of identities and eventual arraignment.

In the words of the prosecutor, “On that fateful day, they told the receptionist that they were expatriates from Colombia that one Nigeria company; Prime Store Services, had requested for their service. They said the company had hired them to come and do some architectural design and supervise some projects.

“They told the manager that the company is the one to foot their bills in the hotel. The manager believed them as soon as he spoke with one person who claimed to be the accountant of the company. They were checked-in immediately and even stayed for almost a week without paying for any facility and other hotel bills.”

He revealed further, “It was on the sixth day when their bills had accumulated to two hundred and thirty-four thousand Naira without any form of payment as earlier agreed, the hotel management called on the police who only met Macmillano around as his accomplice had gone out.”

The presiding magistrate, Hon. E.O. Teluwo, having convicted Macmillano on two-count charges bothering on felony offences punishable under sections 411 and 315 criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, sentenced him to two years imprisonment.
